It has been awhile since we updated. Here is what has been happening since you last heard from us: Southeast Seminole Heights, Ybor Heights and North Tampa Community Crime Watch and Civic Association have been involved in a multi-pronged effort to upgrade Nebraska Avenue to benefit all neighborhoods. Nebraska Avenue is a major gateway to both residential and commercial Tampa. This is a very important effort which stands to benefit the entire city today and in the future. Your support and participation is both welcome and needed.
The US Department of Juvenile Justice is making available a small grant to establish a Neighborhood Accountability Board. This board will exist for the purpose of diverting juvenile offenders from criminal activity by acting as a ''last chance'' before the juvenile is channeled to the Court system. The Hillsborough County State Attorney's Office has agreed to be the lead agency in this effort, which will include TPD, HCSO, the Public Defender's Office, potentially, the Juvenile Justice Council (which is a consortium of agencies concerned with the juvenile justice system), Juvenile Court, Probation and Parole and, most important, representatives from the community. For more information, please email me at the address provided.
