INCREASE IN MEMBERSHIP DUES: Our present membership dues are only $5.00 per year, the lowest of any association in the county. It has been proposed by some residents to increase them to as much as $20.00 per year. Would this pose a hardship on any resident of Bay Crest? At present, we go door to door each year to ask for the $5.00, which is barely worth the trip if that is all we get. If you don't agree with the $20.00, what do you think would be a reasonable amount for membership dues?
Larger scale projects

I don't disagree that the fees should be increased; I actually think they should be more. The people who give are obviously the people who care about their community. With more money the association could do projects that would affect the beauty of the area more than just putting flagpoles on each entrance. If each home gave $100-$200, the assoc. could do projects similar to those done in Seminole Heights. They erected a brick wall separating Hillsborough Ave from the homes facing the street. This has changed the look dramatically. I think the same could be done in Baycrest.

I think we should focus our attention on larger scaled projects even if they can't done for 2-3 years. These larger projects will add to the overall beauty of the neighborhood.

increase ok

$20 seems more than reasonable for annual dues. perhaps even a little higher. $200 (as mentioned in another posting), however is a little high. but a modest increase in conjunction with a greater number of members would allow us to do alot of things to improve baycrest.

Membership Dues, Another Slant

I tend to agree with Anthony more than Jack but with a few qualifiers. Larger scale project would tend to offer more to residents by generally increasing property values. I'm not so sure that we would have to go door to door to collect dues if some of these larger projects, complete with benefits, were actually on the books and explained in the newsletter. If my property value goes up more every year, directly related to even one large project yearly, then one or two hundred dollars in dues won't bother me in the least. Combining dues, and civic fund raisers, with government funds could quickly turn into large sums of money.
