Speed Humps

Posted in: Pat Acres Estates
Does any one know who to go to, to get speed humps put on our section of Barry Rd.? Even though it is a short section of pavement accessible off Hanley Rd. most automobiles think that the posted 25 mile speed limit DOES NOT APPLY to them. I can sit on my porch most mornings during the morning drive times and count the cars on one hand that observe the speed limit.

Over the summer we had a resident flock of ducks that hatched ten chicks nearby and sad to say, every single one of them, including the mother, was hit by vehicles on this short stretch of Barry Rd. in Pat Acres. None of them survived past Sept.

My concern is that this could have just as easily been a child.

How can this situation be addressed?

speed humps

I live on the street with 10 speed humps and I can tell you, it is worse since we've gotten them. The sound of a driver hitting the brakes right before hitting the humps is nervewracking to say the least.

As for children--there are sidewalks on Barry Rd., so I ask, why don't people use them? Everytime I drive that road to get home, it seems some residents are walking on the road. I don't understand that when there is a sidewalk. This is very dangerous also, as I've driven that road with two way traffic and two walkers in the road, who would not budge...and the sidewalk was empty..
Children & Traffic

Oh, on your drive on Barry Rd., I do hope that you are one of the drivers that observes the posted 25 MPH speed limit.

Yes, we do have sidewalks - but only on one side of the street. Children live on both sides of the street. Small children playing in their yards are not always aware that autos can be a danger to them. They just do not think like adults. As far as people walking in the road - I guess you are assuming that all folks walking through are residents! I think I would prefer the sound of a driver hitting the brakes for a speed hump rather than hitting a child or wildlife.

The real solution may be to enforce the speed limit in the neighborhood whether the road has speed humps or not.
