Rental Inspections

Posted in: Old Town Abilene
Many cities require 'rental inspections' before renting out a property. This is to protect the landlord & tenant's rights. The inspector is generally funded through the inspection fees. Currently in Abilene, you can rent out any property in any condition. I think this is something the city should consider.

I think this is a good idea too! We have to many houses that are rented out and torn up. The 'landlord' then rents it out for less and less each time. The renter has no one to complain to, and is just told to move. Many people do not have enough income to be choosy, but EVERYONE deserves a decent clean place to live.

I live in the 200 block of Palm. The owner of a burned out house told the city it was my responsibility to watch over his vacant house and call the police. The city needs to make landlords responsible for their properties!

I think something needs to be done about the properties that the city allows people to rent out. Some houses don't even have running water!
