A south Abilene neighborhood could have a playground by the end of the summer.
The building of the recreation area will depend on if a grant gets approved and on substantial community support.
The Old Town Abilene Neighborhood Association has helped to build Friendship Park located off of South 5th and Vine Street.
Several local non-profits have pitched in to mulch, mow, and landscape the area. Now all that is missing is a playground for the kids.
The community would need to raise $8,500, and a company called Kaboom would pay for the rest.
Long expects to find out if Abilene is awarded the grant by next month.
