Vol. gardeners for Davies Manor

Posted in: Davies Plantation
I know there are lots of beautiful gardens in the neighborhood of Davies Manor.
Can you help a few hours on Tuesday mornings or one of the Saturdays????
I notice you have a list of ''kids'' who are looking for yard work. I know they want to earn money,
but working alongside a ''Master Gardener'' might be educational and fun too.
The Master Gardener club had talked about starting a Jr. Master Gardener program.
Maybe the future M.G.'s of tomorrow are right in Davies Manor's backyard.

Tuesday workdays: We are there every Tuesday from 7 to 11 a.m. There are always lots of things to do.
The native trail needs wood chips spread. Having the front loader would be ideal, but some kids could
do it using wheelbarrels. If we had a good group show up, it could be done in no time at all.

You'all are cordially invited to join us on any of our Saturday workday/education times. This is not just for
Master Gardeners. I am hoping to reach out to the community also. What better place to start than the
Davies Plantation homeowners. We have big plans for Davies Manor. Help us make that happen.

Saturday - May 28th - Davies Manor workday - 8 to 10 a.m. - Planting wildflowers (Community Service Hours)
10 a.m. Wildflower garden tour at the home of Martine Madlinger (MG 1996) She has over 80 trees, shrubs, grasses and flowers.
Marilyn Ahr will give the tour as Martine will be out of town. Bring a friend or spouse. Wear a hat. We can car pool.
Once the wildflowers are established and labeled, we will be offering guided wildflower tours (next spring) and/or maps for a self guided tour.

Saturday - June 4th - Davies Manor workday - 8 - 10 a.m. - (Community Service Hours)
10 a.m. - Certified arborist - Wes Hooper - Walk the property and identify the trees. Get answers for your ''tree'' questions
from an expert. (Education Hours) Bring a friend or spouse. The property will be certified as an arboretum soon, and all trees labeled and maps provided for self-guided tours.

Saturday - June 18th - Davies Manor workday - 8 - 10 a.m. - (Community Service Hours)
10 a.m. - Lori Emens (MG 2004) member of the Native Plant Society - walk the wildflower trail and identify the native plants.
Learn about native plants v exotic plants. Which to plant in your garden and what not to plant. Bring a friend or spouse.

Future Saturday programs include the Butterfly Lady (you can purchase a caterpillar and in a few weeks have your own butterfly to release) and a program on Good Bugs/Bad Bugs (learn what bugs you want to have in your garden)

Happy Gardening,
