Would anyone be interested in helping to get signatures on a petition against the building of townhomes in the Woodlands? If so, please contact me so we can get the ball rolling as time is of the essence.
The petition

I am against the zoning change that would allow the developers to build townhomes and will be happy to sign your petition.

petition against townhomes

First of all, let me state emphatically that I do not want ANYTHING built up on the hill behind us. Having said that, let me make a couple points:

This land has been bought, and it will be developed at the owner's discretion. He can, right now, begin to build single family homes on that property.

The property is too rough and will take a great deal of development to make it feasible to build single family homes. The only way to accomplish that in a costly manner will be for the developers to clear the hill, smooth it out, and start over. That will take a lot of $$$. That doesn't leave much $ to build houses with. The developers have already stated they are looking at building 1200' vinyl siding houses if they have to build single family homes.

The alternative is upscale townhouses which seem less palatable to many tastes around here. It would however, mean saving nearly half the green space on the hill, and it would mean less construction time.

I think reality must be faced. Do you really think 1200' vinyl houses in the $100K range built on a clear cut hill will not mean our property will be devalued also? Do you not see the potential for that area becoming a rental city?

At least with decent townhouses they will look better and be much more expensive, hopefully resulting in a better residential base. Plus they would be maintained by an association; the grounds would be kept and problems would be kept to a minimum. Hopefully they will be gated which will keep down the traffic flow.

None of this tastes good to any of us, but I think the time has come we need to face up to what is happening around us. If you don't believe it, ride down Nolensville Rd., turn right into the Brentwood Highlands subdivision. Ride back into it as far as you can. You will see, they are cutting and blasting the road right up to the back of the hill at the back of the Woodlands property.

separate entrance townhomes

I still think that the townhome development should be required to have a separate entrance. I state this especially in light of the fact that no Old Hickory stop light can be promised if the same entrance is used.
