Is it okay to have handmade ''for rent'' signs in the neighborhood?

Rent signs; to be or not to be

While this is a gray area in our CC&R's, it is permissible to post a for rent sign in yards (not on mailboxes). Common sense tells us that you would want to have a 'decent looking' sign, this is a nice subdivision, but therein lies the problem. Signs in gerneral are not permitted to be displayed (except for 'For sale' signs) even though you see security signs and recently political signs. Hopefully the sign will not be up long.
