Gunshots in the night?

Last night I heard two loud noises like gunshots, the first at about 11 p.m. and the second maybe an hour later. Both were loud enough to wake me and my dog up (she sleeps on my bed). They upset my dog so much she started barking.

It reminded me unpleasantly of when I lived in Midtown. Were they gunshots, and if so, what is happening to our neighborhood?
Gunshots or firecrackers?

I bet it was firecrackers. The kids start early- this weekend will be a nightmare for dogs and cats!

Gunshots

That close to July 4th, I would like to believe that what you heard were fireworks being played with rather than gunshots. I can't imagine a situation where someone would fire a single shot and then again in an hour. Just my thoughts.

Gunshots

You're right, it was close to the 4th, but they sounded louder than a firecracker. And usually when kids play with firecrackers, they shoot off a whole series of them, not just an isolated one and then another an hour later.

Speaking of firecrackers, aren't they illegal in the county? Is that just not enforced at all? Although this year was not as bad as in some previous years, when the firecrackers keep you up half the night, I still worry that a stray firecracker could set my roof on fire.
