We'll see
Yes I've heard of cameras and yes I've heard of dummy cameras. But you knew that already.
So let's move on and talk about value. I place a value on this neighborhood's security. I also place a value on common sense solutions to any security problems. Personally, bad things that happen within the gates are a greater priority to me than bad things that happen outside them. As such, I care about the former more. I'm a little more concerned about strangers having unfettered access to the neighborhood than I am about strangers having unfettered access to our flowerbeds. Call me naive. Oh wait, you already did.
I support the gate and security issues that concern it. Why? Because the gate is a physical barrier that protects my family, as are the locks on my doors. I don't have locks to serve as a deterrent to crime, I have locks to keep people out of my stuff.
Now, if my objective is to keep people out of my stuff, and the HOA has a limited budget to work with, a camera is going to be low on MY list of priorities. So low, in fact, I might, again, deem it to be a waste of money!
I would never ask anyone to simply accept my ''conclusory and unsubstantiated claims'' before fully investigating the issue. But after all is said and done, and after the board has made their substantiated conclusion, and after there is no camera installed . . . we'll see.
