Is there still an effort to have Alta Vista designated a Historical District? What would be the up- and down-side of that designation? If the attempt is still in progress, where in the process are we right now?

Historical Designation
In Jan of 1988 the Alta Vista NA distributed, in its newsletter, a list of neighborhood problems, concerns and wants. The response was very good and as usual grafitti, crime and sidewalks were at the top of the list. Historical designation was close to the bottom. The board did not take this as a no, rather than that the neighborhood still had a way to go before we move for possible historical designation. I believe the next time to voice this concern would be at the Neighborhood Planning sessions that we hope to begin this year if we are accepted by the City Planning Dept. There is also the Conservation supported Conservation District Ordinance (still being drafted) that would take care of the many concerns citizens have about maintaining architectural integrity to the homes and at the same time allow some latitudes to develop, redevelop or restore. If you have any more questions or recommendations please feel free to call me at home or email me. 736-3027. Hector Cardenas, President Alta Vista By HECTOR CARDENAS |
