As we all know, excessive speed and traffic is a concern, especially on Rensslaer Drive. In 2007, I contacted the county engineer's oofice and did get them to add extra speed limit and a curve ahead sign, that helped to some degree. The County Sheriff's have been good at monitoring as they can, but they cannot run traffic 24/7. As Rensslaer Drive has been designated as a right of way for emergency vehicles, speed bumps and additional stop signs are not an option. When I brought up the subject of the county continuing St. Elmo from Billy Mayer to New Brownsville, I met a quck response that it will not happen in the near or far future.
The next thing that can be looked at, is lane narrowing by painting white stripes on both sides of the street or by having Rensslaer designated as a bike route.
Also, be mindful of the county vehicles that use this route. We have all observed School busses speeding on their return routes. If you can, please note bus numbers and times. I will post the proper contact information for Shelby County Schools soon.
Please post any suggestions you may have.
