This is not related to the lights planned for the front yards. We'd like to have some simple lights outlining
some of our house, but are too old or infirm to contemplate getting way up to the eaves. Outlining our doorway or arched windows would seem to involve hammering into either stucco or the mortar holding the stonework, which possibly would threaten the structure. We will probably hire someone to do the installation, in such a way as to be able to take the lights down and rehang them again ourselves. Has anyone put lights on these structural surfaces here in Parkwest who could share their experience? Thanks, Karla

Re: Help please--holiday lights
Karla,
I put up some small plastic hooks in
the stucco over the stone in my
breezeway to hang ''snow curtains''
made of mini lights. The hooks are
anchored with a short nail. I put
silicone sealant on it before tapping
it into the stucco. It seems to have
held okay. You can come over and
see them if you want. I belive I
got them at Home Depot.
I have a friend over in Circle C that
hires a service to put up Christmas
lights on her house. They put them
on top of the roof and everything!
They even store the lights during the
year. However, the service is not
cheap. Most of the lights are the
larger C7 bulbs.
Anyway, to outline a window, they put
adhesive hooks on the windows along
the edge for mini lights. I think I
have seen something like that at Home
Depot. I'll look and let you know.
I can find out who the light service
is so you can inquire about what they
would do with stone and stucco. They
might have a more elegant solution.
Last year, I just taped the mini lights
on the inside of the window with the
clear packing tape. It was no fun
putting them up or taking them down.
If you wanted to put lights on your
horizontal gutters, I'd use the little
plastic gutter hooks. I saw some at Hobby Lobby, but they are probably at
Wal-Mart.
If you need help with putting up your
lights, let me know. I have a ladder
and would be glad to help out.
