Recycling answers
I have had this issue happen to me numerous times. I even confronted the driver and we got into an argument. He said that the ONLY TIME he dumps the recycling is:
1. When the newspapers get wet because they CANNOT recycle WET papers. Please make sure you put them in plastic on those days.
2. They ONLY recycle plastic, 1,2,3. All other number is put into our wonder landfills!
3. Plastic bags CANNOT be recycled. The also go into our lovely landfills so PLEASE collect them and take them to the grocery stores, which have receptacles for plastic bags.
Are ANY of these above items what you see them taking out and dumping in your cans? I would be interested in knowing. Also, if they are not, PLEASE call BFI and ask for a supervisor. To be honest, BFI could care less about our complaints at CCR. At least they give lip service but no action. Maybe our BOD?’s can bid out this service to a company that will actually do a better job!
BTW, I have contacted the Chronicle about the issue of recycling in general. I am trying to figure out why it's only 1,2,3 plastic that can be recycled here in Austin or at least through BFI. More important is why do most of the supermarkets including Whole Foods use NON RECYCLED plastic containers? Usually they are 4,5
