Campaign Promises - Wal-Mart
Brewster took a last minute position against the Endeavor / Wal-Mart project. Let's see if he lives up to his campaigne promises ! Endeavor has built their entire project around having Wal-Mart Supercenter as the anchor. Without Wal-Mart, the whole project needs to be re-submitted. Wouldn't it have been smarter for Endeavor and Wal-Mart to to survey the neighborhoods FIRST ?? There is no doubt now, that the project is in jeapardy, because 85% of the polled neighborhoods are completely against having Wal-Mart anywhere near their homes. (Crime, Bad Business practices, polluntion, excessive traffic, 24x7 store hours, and an unsightly elevation plan). This dog won't hunt. Lets see if Brewster has the courage to rethink Austin's Tax Abatement for Endeavor. Until the Wal-Mart Supercenter warehouse project surfaced, I had a lot of faith in Endeavor. The appeared to be our first environmentally and community sensitive commercial developer. Now, they have betrayed that sacred public trust. BUT, they can still fix this mess. All the have to do is tell Wal-Mart that the warehouse just won';t work - move on to the other 5 sites Wal-Mart has scoped out in Austin and be happy their. Meanwhile, we all hope Endeavor will come back to us with a more sensible project - one that includes development standards like Stratus Properties has agreed to. Endeavor is fully aware of the conditions CCHOA negotiated with Stratus. It just a matter of time before the come to their senses. |
