OK, I'm really frustrated after putting away our garbage can and recycling bin. The garbage collectors came through the neighborhood early today (saw them before I pulled out to work) and later when the recycling truck came through, they emptied my recycling into the trashcan instead of collecting the contents! Now granted, the newspapers had gotten wet, and I realize they don't want them in that condition. But there were glass jars and all sorts of other things there. Is this the height of laziness or what? Please neighbors, clue me in--who wraps their newspapers in plastic, which would be the only way to keep them dry? Anybody else have their recycling dumped in the trashcan? Thanks for your input.

K, try this
You might consider using another large rubbermaid type of container. One with a lid that snaps over the edge, to keep the contents dry. Take a sharpy pen and write ''PAPER'' as well as your address... you'll be the hippest recycler on your block and probably a trendsetter too. |

BFI Blues Too
Hi K, I too have the blues when it comes to the trash company. The system they have is awful, at best. They load up a basket on the front of the truck and then, while driving, empty that basket into the big part of the truck in back. Since they do this while driving they litter the whole time they are emptying it. I have literally chased them down and told them they littered all up and down the street and if they don't come back to pick it up I will have to and I DON'T GET PAID TO DO IT! They actually have come back and picked up a few pieces. I put a trash bag around my recycling bin. That way everything stays dry. Susan's idea is a good one also! I think only the true recyclers will go to the trouble to do this. I also called and asked for another recycling bin because my gets so full and I could really use another. They said we are only allowed one! I think they come by early when it is raining so they have less to do. My own personal opinion. |

I watched them do it to me also
I stood at my window a few weeks ago and witnessed the exact thing. I got so pissed I called a supervisor at the company. He MADE the driver come back to my house. You have to file a complaint, and don?’t leave a message, he won?’t call you back. You need to get him on the phone. There is one supervisor who handles CCR. Just courious, was the driver a younger African American man? I am asking because mine was. This is NOT intended as a racist comment, just wondering if it possibly the same driver? |
