I didn't realize the magnitude of a $0.15/mile toll until I did the math. Say you get 25 mpg and go 25 miles. Toll = 15c * 25 = $3.75. You use 1 gallon. Equivalent to gas tax of $3.75/gallon! At 10 mpg (Hummer?) the tax is $1.50/gallon. At 35 (Civic) the tax is $5.25/gallon. What would you say to a politian that wanted to increase the gax tax that much? That is (realistically) what your trip in to 290 could be in for, and really most everywhere around here before long. Just want everyone to realize the magnitude of the numbers. We DO need to fund improvements though. I will skip the long version, but a GAS TAX INCREASE makes sense to me. 30c/gal used to sound scary (not so much anymore). How about 5-10c/gal as a reasonable start? And then more if inflation and/or road cost factors increase? That beats a proliferation of toll infrastructure, redundant feeders everywhere, mad environmentalists, and a long wait for the lights when the personal budget is tight.

AMAZING WORK GLENN
AMAZING WORK GLENN! THAT is real money they are hitting us up for, in a ''stealth like'' way. People really need to think about what the Tolls will really cost us. Since 2 weeks ago, the Toll system wants to STEAL our already funded William Cannon overpass...now we find out the cost is also equivalent to $3/gallon gas tax! Shame on them! |
