But why do the owners not keep them
under control?

I have dogs & cats crapping on my front
yard. I have cats climbing over the
fence into my back yard.

What can I do to keep people's pets
from leaving little 'surprises' on
my lawn??????

When was the last time you saw a cat on a leash?

You can do something it......

1. You can trap any animal on your property. Take the animal to Town Lake Animal Shelter. (Town Lake will loan you a trap)
2. You can ask your neighboor to contain the animal on their property in a friendly way.
3. Complain via email to the mayor & council members, ask them for an ordinance to force homeowners to contain their animals.
4. You can wait until 2004, the animals laws are being reviewed and HOPEFULLY, all pets will HAVE to be contained.

Until then, maybe a few coyotes will eat well this fall and people will start to realize that allowing a pet to roam freely is irresponsible as the owner of the animal and ESPECIALLY to the pet. The average inside house cat will live apx. 10 years, a free roaming house cat will live 2-3! Never mind all the damage they do to our native species, especially our bird population in America!
The owners are watching

As far as the dogs go, in most cases their owners are standing right there watching their dog crap on your lawn. There is a city ordinance that states that dog owners have to carry bags and what ever is needed to pick up the crap. However in this day of super selfish attitudes, few owners do what is right. The law is not enforced.

?§ 3-3-7 DEFECATION BY DOGS OR CATS.
''It shall be unlawful for any person to fail to promptly remove and dispose of, in a sanitary manner, feces left by a dog or cat being handled by that person on property, public or private, other than the premises of the owner or handler of such dog or cat.''

Potential Fine: $86

In the case of an individual failing to pick up after their pet in their own yard (neglect or abuse) contact the Health Department's Division of Environmental Health.
