I know of 3 more instances where these thuds have kicked in front doors, got what they wanted and were gone in a flash.  One instance, there were kids at home who didn't answer the knock because parents told them not to answer the door while they were at work...so the thuds began using a crow bar to get in!! There are probably alot more that I don't know of but unless we have metal bars on our front doors, none of us are safe!!!  I hear so many times, "yeah I saw that car and it looked strange"....well gee whiz ...call the police, write down the license number, get a description!!!  This is happening during DAYTIME hours....it only takes them 2-3 minutes....

Sorry I am not putting bars on my front door.  This is not the ghetto.  If people start putting those up, watch the home values drop.

Then dont put bars on your front door.   If it were my kids,  I probably would have wished I had bars.   I think my kids are a little more valuable to me than my home dropping in value.  To each their own.  You have a better solution?  I  believe most everyone is looking out for their neighbors,  reporting specious vehicles, people, situations but that doesn't seem to be stopping the crime.  I like the idea about the meet and greet and the chance for all of us to get together and discuss the issues and what we can do together as a neighborhood.    

I also will do what I have to do to keep my family safe.  We had a guy show up at our door at 9pm one night, my husband answered the door with all of us looking out too....he gave us some lame story about just moving in the house down the street and wanted to meet his new neighbors.  Well I knew the lady down the street had indeed moved, but I also knew she had not sold the house.   Thank goodness we were prepared with "back up" when answering the door but there may be others who answer the door without that special type of back up.
