Well, there are several kinds of DSL.  The DSL that everyone knows about (the kind you would get from AT&T that's tied to your existing landline) is ADSL which is dependent on distance to the telephone switch office-the further you are, the slower the speed you get.

 

The UVerse works by vDSL which is intended to carry video, and ties into a fiber node (a big pair of beige ATT boxes in the neighborhood.  My distance is less than 1500 feet so I get the maximum speeds they allow, but I've seen on the back end of the router that my speeds are actually faster than Charter cable offers too.

 

It's all in how you view it.  Cable is much more expensive for my TV services, so I went with UVerse, and I trust the phone company much more to deliver phone service than the cable company or others.

 

Pixelation issues occur with any of the "digital" TV services, if the signal stream is interrupted long enough (a matter of a few fractions of a second) it can happen with DirecTV, Charter (digital & HD TV), and UVerse. It's the nature of the beast.  I've only had it happen once or twice in the 15 months of UVerse I've had.
