Well we have had the speed humps on Aleppo Drive for more than a year now and I have to report that we have not had a single child killed by a driver during that time and before the humps we had for the last 23 years an average of one child killed per year.
We have not had a single evant of shooting from cars since the humps were put in. I hope that each one of us realaize that this is true progress for use with just a little envestment from each of use. Please send in your comments for future growth of our neighbor hood. Such as lights?

More on Speed Humps

Last Monday November 27, the Tucson City Council heard from the Fire Department personel and they are trying to talk the council into getting rid of all existing speed humps in the city limits and also not to let any more be constructed what do you think about that?

Speed Humps are Beneficial

I realize that the Fire Department has their reasoning for not wanting speed humps, that being it takes approximately 7 seconds extra for every hump to respond to fires. They also say it is hard on the equipment. Consider this, just how many times does a fire truck travel over that particular set of speed humps in a month? Now, how many other vehicles travel over that same set of humps in a month? With the realized benefit of reduced accidents (i.e. children being injured or killed) and drive by shootings, I think they can learn to live with the speed humps or find alternative routes that will let them get to a fire faster. If they really want to know where all of the speed humps are then they ought to go out and mark on their maps where they are located and adjust their routes accordingly.
The City Council should not have the final say about removing speed humps after neighbors have gone to the trouble of securing petitions and paying for the speed humps to be installed. If for some reason they decide to remove the humps then I feel the City Council should pay back the residents what they paid for the humps and then should be held criminally and financially responsible for any and all injuries incurred after said humps are removed. Something like this should be brought to the attention of all neighborhoods in Tucson. If you can, get the word out. I'm sure many other neighborhoods would be behind an effort to petition the Council to leave the humps that are installed in place. I know our neighborhood, Midvale Park, would be behind an effort like that.
