What: The Midvale Park Neighborhood Association was established in 1998 and consists of about 5,000 households.
Boundaries: Interstate 19, West Irvington Road, South Mission Road, West Los Reales Road.
Challenges: President Joseph Miller said the most important goal is to get a new program called Midvale Park Seniors up and running.
The program, in which residents help elderly people with daily chores, was established with the support of the Pima Council on Aging and with a $2,500 PRO Neighborhoods grant. For more information on the program, call 358-5780.
The association also plans to break up the neighborhood into smaller areas, so residents feel more connected and can solve problems on a smaller basis.
Accomplishments: The neighborhood received an almost $400,000 Pima County Neighborhood Reinvestment grant for streetlights, which will be installed soon.
For a new park, it was awarded a $150,000 reinvestment grant and $900,000 in bond money from the city that was initially planned for another park nearby, Miller said.
Residents voted in April to expand the neighborhood's boundaries to crack down on crime and other issues that used to be beyond their reach.
Meetings: The next meeting will be held from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Nov. 2 at the Grijalva Elementary School cafeteria, 1795 W. Drexel Road.
The 11th Annual Midvale Park Neighborhood Picnic will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Oct. 14.
