Everyone knows that libraries mean books. However, if you haven?’t been to the Highland Library lately, you?’re missing out on more than the latest best sellers.
The completion of renovations, almost a year ago, brought along major changes at the Highland Library. Along with a large selection of books, magazines, movies and newspapers, it now has eight computers and several valuable research databases for students. Of the eight computers, six of them have internet access and the other two are equipped with Word. There is a one-hour time limit for the Internet Computers and a two-hour time limit on the computers with Word. Patrons must sign up for the available time slots. There are also printers available.
Need help researching something? Just go over to the computer with the large index of magazine databases. Users can find magazines online, newspaper articles, reference books and such research tools as InfroTrac, GaleNet and AP Photo Archives. Kids and student editions are available.
The mezzanine has also been renovated. Teens and young adults can venture upstairs and enjoy classic readings, paperbacks and even comic books. For younger children, there are several ongoing activities, like storytime and on March 24th, as part of ?“It?’s Time to Read Month?”, parents can bring their kids to be library for storytelling with a twist. For this storytime the kids will real aloud to the adults. ?“Read Aloud With Kids?” will start at 1:30 p.m.
Adults get their reading time too. The Highland Library has recently formed a Book Club for adults, which meets every third Saturday.
