University Oaks Neighborhood Association

Another Successful Year

Jan 31, 2007

Thank you for another successful year for University Oaks. We have such an ideal community, and hope no one ever loses site of that. How many communities do you know that have:

?• all three elementary, middle and high schools within walking distance
?• the layout of our streets that provide a safer place for our kids
?• a community pool and playground
?• numerous stores within a mile or two

We were able to make it through another year with a little money left over. This is primarily due to the new insurance policy and our new ?“key?” memberships. We did not have to depend on extra fund raisers as in previous years, though we should continue to have them to increase our savings and for the joy of getting together with our neighbors and friends.

However, as mentioned before, our clubhouse & pool is about 30 years old. It needs maintenance and renovations just like your home. It was fine that we had a ?“little?” money left, but we could use a nice amount put aside in savings for new equipment when needed, a new roof, and to remodel the clubhouse. Keep in mind utilities have also gone up. An immediate need is an air conditioning unit. We have not been able to repair the existing one. Without a/c it will be difficult to attract renters for the clubhouse.

Keep in mind the pool belongs to the ?“community?” not to any individual. It takes more than the few people that regularly show up when work is required. You may not realize that for the last two major projects we had only 3 women (2 middle age +) and one man. Come on neighbors, we can do better than that! We?’ve got a lot of younger families here that can help on the few occasions needed. That?’s not to say others haven?’t helped because they have and were recognized in our newsletters, but we need more people to share the load so the same few don?’t have to do all the work.

We still need someone to maintain the pool. We have one person that can help, but if we get a second person to split the responsibilities you can have a full membership at half price. Call Mike at 279-1624 or Sharon at 896-3118 if interested.

We have a meeting on the second Tuesday of each month to conduct neighborhood business. Please feel free to join us to provide input or address any concerns.

Membership options are flexible and can either be paid in full or in 3-4 monthly installments before the swim season opens. See attached membership form.

As you all know, the pool is an excellent way to cool off and have some fun during the hot South Texas summers. Last year we offered swimming lessons, a pool party and extended hours for key pass members. Join in the effort to make the summer of 2007 the best yet. Thank you for your continued support.
