The idea for the URA was originally formulated back in 2003 by Todd Squier, Michele Trueba, & Won Choi. They then attended sessions offered by the Mayor's Office of Neighborhoods and the Neighborhood Resource Center with the intention of becoming eligible for grants. Since that time, the association has been involved in identifying and addressing issues that impact people who live in the downtown area. It has also been involved with beautification and safety matters and has worked closely with the Nashville Downtown Partnership and Metro Departments to formulate and implement projects and solutions in these areas.
The URA currently meets on the third Monday of each month. The location of each meeting will be posted on the Event Calendar, and a reminder will be sent out in the new Residential Confidential newsletter published by the Nashville Downtown Partnership. Our primary focus right now is to boost attendance at the meetings and increase participation in URA activities. With the next wave of new residents about to move in, this is an important time for the association.
With the recent increase in residential development in downtown Nashville, the number of full time residents and property owners is about to grow exponentially. The Urbam Residents Association will play a critical role in fostering the comeraderie and communication that will help these new residents to view downtown as "their neighborhood".
The URA will also serve to focus the involvement of residents in the development of downtown itself. As property owners, we will all be investors in the success of downtown Nashville.
