Garbage Day Etiquette?

Posted in: Tampa metro

Is there such a thing as garbage day etiquette?

How about...

Placing your city garbage can out of the way of the mailman?

Leaving 3 feet on either side of the garbage can so that the machinery to pick up the cans is not impaired?

Putting your can out after 6:00 p.m. the night before pick up?

Promptly putting your can behind your house after pick up or as soon as you get home?

Not stuffing your can so that junk sticks out of the can and impairs the machinery and is dangerous to workers?

Just some things to consider.

Thanks.

Great post. I couln't have said it better myself. I too have a neighbor that thinks he can put his lawn trimmings out any day of the week. And, to think he used to be our board president. Oh well, what can you do, right? Our posts here will never fall on these people's eyes of course. Try to complain to them in person and all you get is a complaint from them about somebody else. They like to point fingers but never look at their own selves. People just suck.

YOU must be a trash man!  However, I can add to your list:

1)  Do not overfill so trash goes all over the neighbor's yards and the neighborhood itself for others to have to pick up.

2)  Keep the lid closed to keep odors and flies down.

3)  Don't put your trash in someone else's can-use your own or pay to dump it!

4)  Wash out your can when it stinks and only put food or smelly stuff in there in trash bags-NOT LOOSE!

I'm not a trash man but the other guys' post sounds like he might be, or either a postman. Whatever, but, all of these are great posts and ideas. How do you get it across to those who don't seem to care what they do? It just amazes me what I see each week. I've got this same next door neighbor who has put out his palm tree trimmings the week before and there have been palm nuts not only all over the street but in his driveway. I don't understand why he can't get the broom out and sweep it up. He takes the time to wash and shine his nice sports cars but I guess that's all he cares about. Yeah, no time, that's a great excuse too. I sweeped us his trash once before but I'm not going to make a regular habit of it. Now, I'm seeing other neighbors taking the attitude that if he don't care, I don't care. It spreads like wildfire. It just doesn't make any sense. You paid for a beautiful place to live, you have a nice looking place but you want to mess up the front, what people see right away? I'll do my part, I can't worry with the rest of 'em.
