Village Marshal Ordinance Pt 2
Section 6. Hiring of the Village Marshal
A. The Committee with the responsibility for the oversight of Public Safety for the Village shall be included in the interview process of the candidates and shall work closely with the Mayor during the interview process.
B. The Village Marshal shall be confirmed by Council by resolution to begin their probationary period. The Mayor shall present to Council the candidate to be considered for the position of Village Marshal and all information that is necessary for the Council to approve the candidate.
C. The Village Marshal shall be sworn in before Council at a regular Council Meeting. That date shall be considered the hire date and the beginning of the probationary period.
D. At the conclusion of the probationary period the Village Marshal shall be confirmed by Council by resolution for the position of permanent part-time Village Marshal. The Mayor shall present to Council an overview of the candidate?’s progress during their probationary period and will insure that all necessary reviews are completed and placed in the candidate?’s file.
E. The Village Marshal shall meet the requirements of the Village Drug Testing Policy prior to their confirmation by Council for permanent part-time status. Failure to meet the policy requirements will result in the termination of the employee.
F. The Village Marshal shall pass a physical evaluation prior to their confirmation by Council for permanent part-time status. Failure to pass a physical evalution will result in the termination of the employee.
Section 7. The Village Marshal shall provide their own firearms in accordance with regulations established for the police department.
Section 8. The Village shall furnish the Village Marshal with a badge and associated brass (i.e. shoulder patches), that shall be returned upon termination or suspension of employment with the Village. Final paychecks may be held until the badge and all associated brass has been returned. Return of the badge and associated brass shall be recorded and placed in the permanent employee file.
Section 9. The Village Marshal shall be responsible for purchasing their uniforming during their first year of employment. After the first anniversary of their hire date the Village shall provide for all uniform replacement. All uniform replacements shall be recorded and placed in the permanent employee file. All uniforming provided by the Village shall be returned upon termination or suspension of employment with the Village. Final paychecks may be held until all uniform parts have been returned. Return of the uniform parts shall be recorded and placed in the permanent employee file.
Section 10. The Mayor shall conduct a performance review on a yearly basis on the anniversary of the hire date of the Village Marshal and place in the employee?’s file. The first review shall be conducted at the conclusion of the probationary period. After the first review all subsquent reviews shall be conducted on the yearly anniversary of the hire date.
