The Valleyview Village Council and mayor are in over their league, but it is they who have stepped forward to face the music and head off such troubles as they're able to. The meeting last Monday, 10/7, was in my view, handled in a way worthy of the electorate. The citizens must do what they did at that meeting; show up and demand answers, action, and information. Clearly, there is a grave information gap. The gap will not be filled by posting printed hard copy pages around the village, even though that's a fine way to get the word out, (if it's done thoroughly and in timely fashion).
In this age of information, the gap will only be filled with the help of online communications. It is the only way to stay ahead of the rumor mill, and do the work of democratic govenment.
Citizens must be able to review council agenda, minutes, reports, village ordinances, events calendar, office hours, contact info, and present a workable way for site visitors to communicate, comment, and generally interact with the village officers and with eachother.
This a great, great little community with many fine features and assets. Not only can it be saved from extinction, but it can prevail and excell. To do so, however, we must pull together, work together, communicate what we think and want, and dream big. Mastering the challenges faced by the village is well within reach of our talents and gumption. -Ken Odiorne, 614-670-8594 |

In case it may sound as though I'm considering a run for local office, that assumption would be wrong. But thanks anyway. -KO |
