Subject: Police Report

Hi Moms of school-aged kids and above:

FYI: I filed a police report today on suspicious behavior in our neighborhood. I don't know about you all, but I am tired enough of the number of strangers that ring my doorbell on a weekly basis. Yesterday evening; however, gave me cause for concern.

My daughter came running into the house after being in the front yard (shortly after walking our male dog up and down the sidewalk) afraid and upset, yet relieved. A woman driving a black car pulled up to her in front of our home, rolled down the window and told her she really liked her dogs. She asked if she could pet them (keep in mind this woman is in her car at this point). My daughter said "No, they are my moms dogs" (not really knowing what to say). The woman then got out of her car, walked around her car and approached my daughter and dog (still keeping somewhat of a distance) and told Natalie that she is a dog lover and started calling the dog to her. Natalie commanded the dog to stay and said "He WILL bite". The woman finally backed off and said, "Well, maybe next time..." and got back into her car and left.
The really strange thing about it is that she did not keep going in the same direction. She turned her car completely around and drove back the way she came from. It was clear that she spotted Natalie from a distance and approached her from a distance on purpose. For what reason exactly, we will never know. She could have very well been a dog lover and meant no harm. It clearly was not a smart thing to do. Many of you who have seen the size of our pups would agree.

Jim and I have gone over "what to do when a stranger approaches you" a million times with our children. This proves that they can simply fall vulnerable into the hands of a stranger. Thank heavens for our big ole fat huge dog that growled - although I don't say that most days about him.

HERE'S A DESCRIPTION OF THE CAR AND WOMAN SO YOU CAN KEEP YOUR EYES OPEN:
- drove small-to-medium sized black car
- white woman with extremely blond hair / highlighted hair
- had her hair up in a pink hair clip
- wore prescription glasses
- wore a green shirt and black pants at the time

This incident happened at the corner of Redgum and Yellow Wood Drive in the Woods neighborhood at approximately 6pm if you care to pass it along to other concerned parents. I have lost many email addresses since I changed my email service in January and I was not able to send this out to as many mommy friends as I would have liked.

Take care.
Cindy
