On Wednesday, the 14th, the City of Fort Worth Zoning Commission held a meeting regarding proposed zoning change requested by ACRES Development Corp. at 3921 Keller Hicks Road, which is directly northeast and across from the new middle and intermediate schools. This proposed zoning change involved re-zoning that corner site from ?“E?” Neighborhood Commercial to ?“MU-1?” Low Intensity Mixed Use. The proposed development included, in addition to about 40,000 square feet of retail space, a 268-unit apartment complex. Several community members from the Woodland Springs area were also present at the meeting. The developer?’s representative appeared before the commission to request a continuance to the next meeting in July due to the fact that they were changing their request to a planned development and were in the process of completing a site plan for submittal to the City. The chair recognized at least four individuals from the Woodland Springs contingent, who all spoke against the proposed zoning change.
A motion was made to ?“deny the developer?’s request without prejudice?”. After brief discussion, the motion passed, much to the surprise of all us who were in attendance.
According to Jesse Torres with the City of Fort Worth "The Zoning Commission recommended denial for this case by a 6-3 vote. It will be heard by City Council on July 11."
