Neighborhood Watch: A Partnership

Goals of Neighborhood Watch
The main objective of The Neighborhood Watch Program is simply to prevent crime by:

Increasing citizen awareness of burglary and the possibility of other neighborhood crimes through a continuing information program. The majority of this is accomplished through literature distribution.

Training citizens in property security and assisting them in making their homes more secure through programs like Operation Identification and Security Surveys.

Developing a neighborhood action program where neighbors help watch each other's property and report suspicious persons and activities to law enforcement agencies.

Encouraging all citizens to cooperate with law enforcement agencies in reporting crime.

Enlisting each home, apartment and business in Operation Identification.

Operation Identification
Operation Identification is a property marking program. It is successful in reducing or eliminating burglary and theft in communities where the program has been properly implemented.
The program clearly and permanently identifies merchandise, making stolen items difficult for a thief to sell. If a burglary does occur, the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office can quickly identify and return recovered items to the owners. The only cost associated with operation Identification is a little of your time.

Security Surveys
These surveys are done by a JSO Officer who will come out to your home and teach you better ways to secure your home so you are less likely to become a victim of a home invasion. The officer covers issues like proper locks on windows and doors; crime prevention through environmental design; and various low cost items that will improve the physical security of your home.
