The Great American Cleanup 2000

The Great American Cleanup 2000 is an opportunity for individuals, group, schools and neighborhoods to show pride in Denver and make a difference in their communities. Citywide spring cleanup will take place May 20th.
Denver Public Works will have trucks at North High School on 32nd Ave for collection of the following items, household furniture, bagged yard debris, appliances (excluding those with freon), and carpet if it's rolled and tied. Chemicals, motor oil and tree trunks more than 3 inches in diameter cannot be accepted. Recycling trucks will be available for clean newspapers, glass, tin cans, aluminum and plastic bottles (#1&2).
Make a difference in your neighborhood, get rid of junk in your yard, alley or help a neighbor clean their yard.
For volunteer opportunities call 303 640.2900.

Year 2000 Real Property Values

For the year 2000, all Denver real property values will remain the same as they were in 1999, unless a property has undergone new construction, demolition, zoning change, or any other change which is required by law to determine a new property value. If your property is going to receive a new value for 2000, a new Notice of Value should have been mailed to you by May 1, 2000. If you believe that your 2000 property value is incorrect, you can send a letter of protest to the Denver Assessor at 621 17th Street, Suite 600, Denver, CO, 80293. Be sure to include your parcel identification number. The deadline to postmark your protest is May 27 (or the next business day if May 27 falls on a weekend or holiday). The deadline to deliver a protest to the Assessor's Office in person is June 1 (or the next business day if June 1 falls on a weekend or a holiday).
Due to the construction of a major new city government office building, the Denver Assessor's Office has moved to another location at 621 17th Street, which is the Wells Fargo building at the corner of 17th and Welton Street in Denver. The Public Information Section of the Assessor's Office is located in Suite 810.

Area Magnet-designation for Montessori/Dual language School in Northwest Denver

Students throughout northwest Denver could ride a bus to the new school in northwest Denver under a plan approved unanimously by the Board of Education. Those students who currently attend four northwest Denver elementary schools, Bryant Webster, Valdez, Columbian and Smedley, would have first priority for a bus ride. Those students would have to live outside the "one mile" zone from the new school, being built at West 36th Ave and Zuni Street.
Students who live north of Sixth Avenue and west of Interstate 25, but outside
the first priority attendance areas, would have secound priority for a bus ride.
In order for the Montessori/Dual language program design to be successful, states the resolution approved by the Board "there must be a balance of English and Spanish speaking children in the student body attending the school from year to year and a high percentage of the student body must continue from one year to the next."
The school is expected to open with the beginning of the 2001-2002 school year.
