Guest Speaker- Angela Tolosa, Project Director, Midtown Community Court : Opening in October 1993 as a joint venture of the Center for Court Innovation and the New York State Unified Court System, the Midtown Community Court was the country?’s first community court project. A neighborhood-based court that pursues innovative responses to persistent community problems, Midtown holds low-level offenders accountable for their actions by sentencing them to perform community restitution that is immediate, visible, and meaningful. At the same time, it helps offenders address underlying problems, such as homelessness, unemployment, and substance abuse, by linking them to on-site social services like drug treatment, job training, and mental health counseling.

5.1. Parks & Recreation (Christina Boers, chair)- Partnership for Parks It's My Park! Day - October 21st- Darrick announced that you can get involved in planting, painting restoration and clean up projects and enjoy free events.
6. Unfinished Business
6.1. Elliott Sykes, Park Manager for the Matthews-Palmer Playground answered our Aug 20th Letter (Watty Strouss):
6.1.1. The condition of the park house's tiles to determine what action may be required to either preserve or remove them= the tiles were recently cleaned
6.1.2. Possibility of painting the walls in the park= it is possible
6.1.3. Possibility of Parks Department requesting funding for the renovation of the playground= not likely
6.1.4. Date for reopening the playground and an appropriate occasion to unveil its new name as the Matthews-Palmer Playground= Elliot is checking with Adrian Benepe
7. New Business
7.1. Nominating Committee Recommendations- officer terms are two years, according to the by-laws distributed during the August meeting. This committee makes recommendations for the block association?’s four offices: president, vice president, secretary and treasurer. In September, Hans Dudelheim and Seth Sibanda agreed to seek nominees. Steve Fanto treasurer agreed to be treasurer, Allison Tupper secretary or vice president, Watty Strouss secretary or vice president, Hans Dudelheim vice president, Christina Boers president or vice president if she can come to most meetings and Mark Steven Robinson vice president. The Nominating Committee did not identify a candidate for President but Darrick Sampson (current President) expressed an interest in continuing in his current capacity. By special vote Darrick was appointed President for a third year because therer were no other candidates.
