My husband and puppy and I moved here in December 2008. We LOVE living here. However, since we have lived here our automobile was vandilized and our home was robbed.
Our car windows were broken out while parked overnite in the driveway. Just recently thousands of dollars of golf clubs were stolen from our open garage. On this day I was working in the garage and just stepped inside to my kitchen for a few minutes leaving the garage door open. A neighbor came to the door and said that she witnessed 3 AA men coming out of their car, ran into my garage, and saw them carry out our golf equipment, jump in the car and raced out of the neighborhood towards Richmond. Our neighbor thankfully wrote their license plate number down and I called the police. Relecting on this now I am very lucky because these theives were only a few steps away from entering my home and much worse could have happened. I am gratefull for that and also for the kindness of my neighbor.
When the police came and took the report they had the following suggestions that could be presented to the Association for consideration to improve the safety of our neighborhood.
1. Update the existing speed bumps, most importantly RAISE the bumps much higher, to help cut back on the traffic on Mid Lane and the use of Mid Lane as a "Thru" street. The speed bumps could also be restripped and reflectors updated. The raising of the speed bumps to be MUCH higher is the most important, it will slow traffic down.
2. Install more Stop Signs on Mid Lane. Currently it is a "fast track" from West Alabama and Mid Lane to Richmond and Mid Lane. My husband was walking our puppy this morning at around 7:30 am and said the cars were driving VERY fast on Mid Lane.
3. Call Houston Police and ask for more patrolling of Mid Lane Street to help with the speeders and general safety.

Close Off Mid Lane - Is there any way we can close off Mid Lane to elleviate the unwelcomed guests. "Neighbors" could you image the RAISED VALUE OF OUR HOMES if we could turn our neighborhood into a "Gated Community" in the Galleria! Wow - I can't even imagine the increases in our property's.....
Could we all get together and do this? I know it hasn't been thought about and I don't have all the answers or information, however it would be worth looking into and investing in.....for our safety.
