The alleys are filthy !!!!

Posted in: Washington Park East
I live in E. Wash Park and am getting so tired of the alley situation. They are filthy. The city will do the basics like pick up trash in the dumpsters, and repave. IT IS OUR RESPONSIBILITY as residents to do the rest. I have one neighbor who just keeps his blue recycle baskets out in the alley all the time... don't people know that you're not supposed to leave them out?? Only should be out there on the pick up day. Also, I have another neighbor who likes to place his garbage next to the dumpster if its to full... INSTEAD of walking 20 feet to the next dumpster. What happens is this trash never gets picked up, as the city only empties the dumpsters and not the trash next to it. I guess I just don't understand these people... I see their front yards which are beautiful, with trees, flowers, lights at Xmas... but at the same time they're letting the land behind their homes look like something from NYC. Does anyone have suggestions? Can the city fine someone for a filthy alley way behind their home? I'm constantly out there sweeping away glass and trash and getting so tired of it!!

I agree!

Finally, someone else who thinks the alleys in this neighborhood are like a NYC cesspool! I deliberately moved from that shanty to lead a clean lifestyle, away from the filth that is NYC. Now it is in my alley.

If you cannot clean your part of the alleyway, move to a dirthole like NYC!

you clean up!!

We are unfortunate enough have a trash bin in the alley behind our fence. People mistakenly believe that if they leave items next to the trash bin, ie full trash bags, old easy chairs, toilets, old refrigerators, that the trash people will get out of the truck and pick these items up. We enter our garage through the alley, and every few weeks, we are confronted with some wash park trash's trash. The city does make large item pickups now and then, but we live with this mess until they do. People are basically selfish and as long as they are not looking at their own mess, it presents no problem for them. If a homeowner is unable to clean their neighbor's trash from the alley, we already pay the price by looking at it every day. Why should we be fined or defiled by people like you. Go back to NYC. We already have enough bitter users here.
