Southwest Baltimore- a unique community history.
Bounded by the oldest railroad line in America, the neighborhoods served by The Village Center have a long history-- and a great deal to offer as we move into a new century. Our communities are among the most racially and economically diverse in all of Baltimore City. While some of our families have been here for many generations, others have recently moved here to enjoy local amenities and easy access to jobs in health care, industry, government, and downtown businesses.
Our residential areas include brand new, market rate townhomes, one of the City's original "dollar house" neighborhoods, restored rowhouses, and lots of decent affordable housing--close to downtown, I-95, and the MARC station. The historic Mt. Clare House in Carroll Park, the B&O community gardens, and the Morrell Park Little League fields provide our community with green space, while Carroll Park is about to undergo a million-dollar renovation and the new Gwynns Falls Greenway will wrap around two sides of the community.
Ours is traditionally a "walk to work neighborhood",and residents still walk to work at the new, high-tech University of Maryland campus, the Inner Harbor, and Carroll Industrial park. Close to downtown--and to such attractions as the B&O Railroad Museum and Baltimore's two sports stadiums-- the Village Center's diverse neighborhoods have enormous social and economic potential. The Village Center is here to help turn that potential into a vibrant reality.
