Neighborhood Meeting
Westleigh Neighborhood Association
Tuesday, March 25, 2008 at 6:30 p.m.
at Vegas Verdes Elementary School
4000 El Parque Ave
Topics:
- Historic Preservation Survey Update
- Neighborhood Partnership Grant Fund Recap
- Business Partnerships Development
Agenda:
- Welcome and Introductions. Present were Franklin Simpson, Courtney Mooney, Tiffany, Dana and 11attendees.
- Courtney talked about the Historic Preservation Committee's approval to use Centennial Funds for Westleigh Neighborhood Historic Survey by Diana Painter from So. California. Diana will be in the neighborhood in the next 4-6 weeks to begin her assessment of our eligibility for Local and National Historic Designation. This process can take up to 3 months. She will only file for Local Designation. If we meet National criteria, it will be up to us to decide to file.
- The Neighborhood Partnership Grant Fund (NPF) are grant funds Neighborhood Associations can apply for to assist in improving the livability of neighborhoods through matching funds (matching funds are required to be met 1:1 and can be satisfied with labor at $15/hour). Jamie on Melville volunteered to attend one of the orientation workshops and complete the application, due by April 25th, 2008. If granted, the Council cuts a check directly to the project source so no one within Westleigh needs to be responsible or accountable for the money. Jamie will be attending a workshop scheduled after our March meeting. Franklin mentioned an accountability of those funds is necessary and we'll need to log volunteer hours and generate monthly reports.
- Business Partnership Development. Franklin suggested we take the next step and get involved with our local Businesses. Start developing Abusiness partnerships@ (ex: Larry=s Meats for hotdogs to be used in May, etc.) One of the attendees, Ed, stated he has gotten Attorney Siedel committed for neighborhood involvement and the possibility of funding "Neighborhood Watch" signs. VCA Rancho Animal Hospital has been contacted to be the go-to-place for lost/found pet posters.
Other Business:
- Neighborhood Watch (NW) was presented to us in February by Denise Stride, Crime Prevention Specialist from Bolden Area Command. A NW sign-up sheet was passed around but no one expressed an interest in being either a block captain or co-captain at either the February or March meetings.
- Other Dates: Neighborhood Meeting Dates: The Last Tuesday of every month at Vegas Verdes Elementary School=s Multi-purpose Room starting at 6:30pm: Apr 29, (off for the summer - June, July and Aug), Sept 30 and Oct 28. Neighborhood "Porch" at Melville/Ashby on May 3rd from 0900 - 1300, and in December.
