$        May 16th “Porch”

$        Public Comments/Concerns

Agenda

$        Welcome and Introductions.  Present were Robin Munier, City of LV – Councilwoman Lois Tarkanian’s Office; Lisa Campbell, Senior Neighborhood Planner; Ann Kilponen, Neighborhood Planner; Dana- Secretary and 12 attendees.

$        Robin made a surprise visit to update us on Lois’ Townhall Meeting held on April 21, 2009 and to clarify the NDOT concept proposals along Rancho and Teddy Drives for the I-15 Resort Corridor project which were not supported and will not be considered.   She affirmed Lois’ support of our Historic Designation and hoped to attend the May 16th “Porch” but her 90+ old father was ill and she may need to rush out to the Fresno, California area.

$         “Adopt-a-block” program was presented by Senior Neighborhood Planner, Lisa Campbell.  This Program, in partnership with “Code Enforcement”, educates those participants (a group of dedicated volunteers who have signed a participation agreement) to have the ability to identify issues and report them to an assigned contact person who in turn reports these issues to the appropriate agency for remediation.  This group can monitor the entire neighborhood or a portion of it. A monthly report is generated by Neighborhood Planning from the issues reported.  This monthly report helps the Neighborhood Association monitor and keep tract of those issues, their status and resolutions.  It can increase/improve Code Enforcement response whose fees and fines were increased by recent ordinances and may develop property pride.  After a year participation, an “Adopt-A-Block” sign is posted in the neighborhood.

$        The May 16th “Porch” will be held from 0900 – 1600 at Ashby and Melville. It’s a “Meet and Greet” your neighbors with a BBQ and Historic Designation information.

Other Business:

$        Since there weren’t any volunteers for new Officers, and the consensus was to keep the current Officers, it was decided to change the meeting date from the last Tuesday of the month to the fourth Thursday of the month.  After summer recess, the next scheduled meetings would be September 24, 2009 and October 22, 2009.  A holiday event for November and December would be planned for the neighborhood with the possibility of including surrounding neighborhoods.

$        Don Meyers expressed concern with 1266 Melville being vacant and overgrown, stagnant pool, palm tree obscuring a fire hydrant, etc –Code Enforcement had posted a notice ~ March 31st and Rapid Response drained the pool on April 17th.  The owners have been contacted and clean-up has begun; other property concerns – 1312 Douglas (car repair/abandoned cars in alleys), 1312 Darmak (port-a-potty), 1312 Melville and 1110 Barnard need to have either a status check or be resubmitted to Code Enforcement; 1116 Darmak has been demolished.  The trees on Paratore behind 1128 Melville are still there as it’s not sure who’s responsible.

$         Public Comments: Driving of mopeds/dirt bikes down the alleys; an abandoned car in the alley between the 1300 block of Darmak and Douglas.
