$ Welcome and Introductions. Present were Lois Tarkanian and Robin Munier from City Council; Denise Stride from Metro’s Bolden Area Command; Neighborhood Planner Ann Kilponen; Tiffany Hesser - President, Dana Russell- Secretary and 15 attendees.
$ Denise Stride spoke about “Neighborhood Watch” watching out for neighbors. Westleigh is within the boundaries of Bolden Area Command (BAC) which is located on Stella Lake Street. BAC is further divided into areas and Westleigh is in Union Area (U3). She explained that routine patrol is non-existent but each area is patrolled by a Squad of 8-9 Officers and calls are prioritized. Neighborhood Watch (NW) is to supplement the limited police resources. Within Westleigh’s NW, there would be “Block Captain” designees who “Block Participants” report to so information is streamed lined and processed and reported to Metro from one source, not many. In order for NW to materialize, there needs to be a “Block Captain” for every street. Participants should keep note pads to document unusual happenings. Denise did a check on “Crime View Community” from www.lvmpd.com for the past 60 days and reported that nothing occurred within the Westleigh Neighborhood.
$ Lois Tarkanian spoke of the things that have been done, things that are in progress and what the future holds. She wanted us to be proud of our Association by reminding us of what we’ve done and accomplished in the past 3 years. Her Office has supported the improvements made at a couple of the Elementary School and at Baskin, Hyde, and Dexter Parks by upgrading the existing equipment and adding other features such as: dog runs, soccer parks, basketball courts, baseball field, etc. Helped pass an Ordinance preventing alcohol and glass in the Parks. They have modified bus shelters for more shade. Stopped Charleston business growth. Renovations at Rotary Park are to start and be completed by Spring 2011. Plans are to redevelop the Charleston, Sahara and Decatur area; rejuvenate the medians from Rancho and west on Charleston; develop an urban setting. She asked for any concerns which are: conditions of sidewalks/curb, median vegetation blocking driver’s view from turning.
