Westleigh Neighborhood Association Meeting

Wednesday, February 13, 2013 at 6:30pm

Wasden Elementary School’s Multi Purpose Room

 2831 Palomino Lane

Las Vegas, NV  89107

MEET AND GREET

Welcome:  in attendance where Joe Genovese, Vice President; Dana Russell, Secretary and 8 neighborsShawn Spanier, President, was out sick and Anne Kilponen, Neighborhood Planner, stopped by briefly.

Meet and Greet:  Wednesday's Meeting was lively. Shawn was unable to attend and Joe oversaw the meeting.

Opened the Meeting with the Valley View (VV) widening project.  There was a concern raised about the divider at Mt View when you exit southbound onto VV as there is no turnout. The uneven pavement as it is lower than the curb but Joe said that Las Vegas Paving still needs to add a 2nd lift to grade which will be taken care of as well as the bus cutout in the NW corner as it was mentioned that it appeared the bus would stop in the right lane.  Not so.  Plan to ask for a "Traffic Study" once the project is complete. Talk of adding a stripped crosswalk across VV at Mt View.

An attendee was very adamant about property taxes the City and County planned to raise to finance the overpaid firefighters and their $60,000 truck!  As homeowners, we should oppose this.

Bill was there from 1243 Barnard where he built a carport and now needs a variance.  A Variance mailer will probably be coming to you.  He asked you to return it with either a support or oppose reply but that you check out the carport first before making a decision.  His surrounding neighbors have endorsed it.

At our Nov meeting, there was mention of sidewalks in disrepair at 1200 Melville and on Barnard, south of Ashby.  Who is responsible for their maintenance?  Also, Lois talked of changing out the dim street light bulbs to brighter one. They are still dim in our neighborhood which doesn't provide much luminescent for pedestrians. These lingering concerns were sent to Anne.

I am going to email Bob Coyle of Republic Service regarding any changes to the recycling program he initially introduced to us in 2011 as a pilot program.  It appears both City and County are adopting this once pilot program to become permanent by 2017?  It was asked to get Bob out for our April 10th meeting as we could be proactive before it's forced upon us.  The hope is that they may be using front/rear loaders for trash which can still go down the alley and side loaders for recyclables which go out to the front curb anyway.

Joe to follow up with the Neighborhood Watch signs.  Anne mentioned a Neighborhood Watch meeting in March for all Block Captains/Co-Captains for the surrounding neighborhoods and a follow-up with only a representative from each Neighborhood Assoc later on.

The May “Porch” is set for May 18th.
