Westleigh Neighborhood Association Meeting
Wednesday, November 13, 2013 at 6:30pm
Wasden Elementary School’s Multi Purpose Room
2831 Palomino Lane
Las Vegas, NV 89107
Welcome and Introductions: in attendance: Shawn Spanier, President; Dana Russell, Secretary; and 8 neighbors. Vice President, Joe Genovese was out of town.
Meet and Greet:
The Variance for 1243 Barnard carport was denied and has since been removed by the homeowners.
Looking to apply for Neighborhood Grant in 2014. It can’t benefit any homeowner. Open to suggestions for projects by identifying needs/issues. Resources needed such as matching funds and volunteer hours. Possibly relocating the Westleigh Sign hiding behind the bus stop on Valley View.
To Check with Anne on the foregoing issues:
· the status of Cashman after being torn up and roughly patched
· lighting for the alleys
· having the perimeter walls of Valley View and Oakey painted one color
· resources for low income or elderly homeowners for property upkeep.
· Properties in need of upkeep: around 1336 Barnard & 1107 Darmak
· when to call Rapid Response and their on-going duties (i.e. routine scheduled pick-ups vs. only on call) as there is discarded trash that sits in alleys for an extended period of time.
· the sidewalks in disrepair at 1200 Melville and on Barnard, south of Ashby. Who responsible? Will City do repair at low to minimal cost to homeowner or help with costs?
· the changing out of the dim street light bulbs to brighter ones
· Can the easement space between sidewalks and fence lines be paved?
To check on the small community papers such as “the View” regarding distribution. Vacant homes have these piled up. Also, if you are away, it signals that the house is vacant. It was suggested to have the “Crime Data” from the RJ scanned for email distribution for those not getting the RJ.
Graffiti . . . neighborhood email went out for neighbors to check their property and back walls for graffiti and send pictures to Dana for Metro’s Bolden Area Command. Graffiti found in alley between Melville and Darmak on the back walls of the Westleigh homes. Rapid Response called for abatement.
2014 Meetings in February and April with a “Porch” in May. To check on the best day of the week and which week of the month. More frequent informational flyers and quarterly postcards/newsletter to be sent to keep neighborhood connected.
