10-18-98 REF. 199 Broomfield

To Margaret

I will stand behind everything you have quoted me as saying; perhaps, if you knew more about BF; you would agree with me.

On this one issue the leaders of BF ignored the public; and choose to go a direction that is short of ethics and legality. Unfortunately, this deception involved not only the residents of BF; but this time ALL the residents of Colorado. Ironically, when it was complete, the residents of BF were a small voice of 8000 voters; compared to the state vote of 1,200,000 voters. There was little to have a public meeting about once this became a state approval issue.

As individuals; these people are definitely worth all that I have said about them.

Beginning with Ref. C.; once this was approved by the State Assembly for ballot in April; the council and the city no longer sought the support of the people in major decisions that affect all lives.

The forums on open space were forced by the two groups involved; forced by a the request for a study for development for a protected area. The argument here is that this area is supported by a vote of 65% in favor of open space; taken in 1994; with the approval of a tax to pay for open space. The anger generated by this DENIAL of a people's vote; was overwhelming to say the least. You better believe there were public forums; and you better believe it was not a few; but hundreds who attended. So what did the council do?
Have a "study session" and seek to compromise the two factions: all because they decided to ignore the vote of the people.

This is the new attitude in BF. Unlike the times before the decision to go to state; there were always public meetings; there were committees; and there was open discussion published before a decision was made.

Now, decisions are made; and the only way to undo those decisions are to loudly protest; or, start a petition drive and put it on the ballot.

Streamlined government means eliminating duplications of functions of people in the same level of expertise; it does NOT mean eliminating government for and by the people; a representative form of government. Streamlined government, as is currently being practiced in BF, means eliminating duplications of functions of people in the same level of expertise; AND eliminating the representative government in decisions that affect all the population. I challenge you to read the effort of a petition; it cannot be reenacted for six months after a resolution is passed; and can only be put on the ballot in the next municipal election. That, Margaret, is two years from now, if we are to disagree today.

What you have in BF is a powerful force of active citizens (much greater in number than you can imagine) who are saying we do not like the change. However, if you read the posts of John or Oliver, whoever it was, they are now assuming they can find me; threaten me, and make my life miserable. It is public that someone was followed at the library when asking for information on the county--would you live with this kind of harassment from the city and council? I think not; but you have definitely convinced me that you are no more than an arm-chair coach who has not completed one area of research on her own. Or were you the one followed at the library?

Welcome to the new attitude of BFCC in 1998-1999.

No, it has not always been this way. And, yes, it is this way now.

Why did they try the appeal route; if they had been so integrus in winning the ballot at State Assembly?

TO Margaret and BC

Today I have to share with both of you that I actually feel remorse for those who entertain themselves by making copies of all my postings. Such a dull life you must lead. Have either of you done research beyond the information that has been posted on this board? With all due respect; your knowledge is quite limited on the subject. What are your expectations in using me as a targeted resource?
