10/1/99 Broomfield Problem

In Saturday's Enterprise about rising costs of the county; there is mention of property tax revenues...During the election we consistently heard we would not have increased taxes. Being a new county; I realize all of our properties will be reassessed. Is the council counting on market value assessments to bring in new taxes; it is well known that market values are probably higher than our current assessments; because of the limits that must be put on assessments for each year. I am in an older home and have had tax increases; but no one seems to have the answer to my question. Will the big surprise come from our "appointed assessor". It was pointed out to me that the county debt cannot be more than 2% of property values according to the charter. Is this the ace in the hole for increasing taxes; the market value assessment AND the fact this is a new county with no history? The miniscule reduction in tax levy will not reduce my taxes. Also, since the schools are in four counties; what effect will this have?

Big Bad WHO???

The reason Countryside residents were shocked is because ALL of Broomfield''s meetings on the subject were behind closed doors. And the only reason we know about the sites is due to a news leak. You talk about the water for Superior. Westminster and Broomfield used to share the same supply until Broomfield declare it to be unsafe due to Rocky Flats and demanded a "better" supply. The only reason Broomfield MOVED the site father away from Countryside was due to pressure from Countryside residents. I really don''t care for the radioactive issue. Its a nice ploy to direct peoples attention away from Broomfields lack of ethics. The assertion that Broomfield and Westminister city councils lack morals come from dealing with them for the last few months and having them say they will do something and when they think you''re not watching have them do exactly the opposite. I call that unethical. Jails are not a terrible thing. Not having any say as to how it will affect you and your children is!!

I will send you a pack of pick-up sticks that you can label your research with; after you straighten out the sticks. How's that.

Good to hear you are still enjoying the other aspects of life..Keeps one a "rounded person."

Good luck with your reading and writing. Later..........

GOOD POINT !!!

I forgot about the COP funding for the jail. It's really the investors that would loose if any one would. And I don't see why the State (or any one other than BFCC) would be finacially liable in any case.

What happens happens.

If the vote for county in Nov 98 would have resulted in a "NO", would the State (or anyone) have been financially liable for $ spent by Broomfield City Council to ask the question or promote the campaign. I think not.
