10/1/99 Broomfield Problem

I didn't think this was worth the time it takes to write this; but I have to admit you struck my sense of humor, from a chuckle to a gutteral laugh. Interlocken receives no special attention...Ha, Ha, Ha, The BF council is like a puppy dog when it comes to Interlocken; what do you want Master; we will give it to you. Roads, Park n Ride (sure we'll trash another area so you can look pure; 1000 spaces and direct roads to you, displace people, homes, what the heck, you are the Master), utilities, stop lights and signs, (is this why you have a committtee to take some down in BF); police protection (hire 12 send 10 to Interlocken). In the meantime; First Filing is on their knees for attention (home to most original BF residents); parks are full of weeds--no money; roads are in need of repair; and Albertsons is a blight on the area. The Broomfield Economic Development Committee is praised for their inept ability to attrack nothing but fast food extensions and gas stations; and is probably crying in their soup over the loss of a liquor store. City permits availability does not allow Home Depot to open for a year; more citizens support this than praise another fast food (bet the mayor cannot undersand why); But those are citizens....a voice headed for extinction in this town. And what is new for BF: human fighting banned in seven states; and a police chief who endorses it. Gee, I am so proud in light of Columbine; was this one-upmanship--we don"t use guns;; we just encourage beating each other to submission!!! What did the council do about this? Since Chuck Johnson endorsed it in the paper; is this ok because Chuck is a friend and lawyer for council members. Look at the problems in first filing and part of Ward 2; if you aren't embarrassed you should be. Of course, this is part of the area that has to be trashed for the park n ride; can't forget Interlocken.

By the way; don't assume you know how I voted for the county; you were not in the voting booth with me.

Thank you for explaining your theories. So, Interlocken wanted Broomfield to become a county so they would have only one county to work with on the NW Parkway?

So what? I think you are wrong, however, because isn't Boulder County also part of the Northwest Parkway Agreement?

What exactly is Interlocken getting for its money? If it really is the "cause" of Broomfield becoming a county (as opposed to the voters), then Interlocken helped give the residents of Broomfield more control over their own destiny by keeping their property taxes in Broomfield, to be spend only on Broomfield programs, parks, etc. Why would Interlocken do this? Obviously because it benefits Interlocken. How? By enabling Broomfield to become the best community it can through an improved tax base and more efficient delivery of services, which attracts more business and employees to Interlocken. I don't know where you're getting your information that Broomfield will not see any income from property or sales taxes for 10 to 15 years. If you're correct, then there I would agree that there is a problem in leadership. But I seriously doubt your estimates.

Communities thrive on "Interlockens." Big Bad Wolf is exactly right. Communities benefit from what you would term "Corporate Greed" gecause what is good for the company is good for the rest of the community. For example, Interlocken has an interest in gtetting its customers and employees to and from work, and thus has an interest in funding highway improvement. Great! Let them pay for it! Should the leaders of Broomfield say, no thanks, we'll let our citizens improve US 36 and build the NW Parkway?

It appears that your problem may be with the NW Parkway. Perhaps you don't want it. This is not uncommon, and I am sure others share your opinion. It is a lot like those who didn't want the jail where it is going. But don't you see that repealing county status does not solve either concern? Whether Broomfield becomes a county or not, the Northwest Parkway is going to happen, the jail is going to be built, Interlocken will still prosper.

You're barking up the wrong political tree.

P.S. As I noted before I live in Northglenn and the initials do not stand for Broomfield City or Broomfield County. They do belong to this household.

Perhaps you need to contact CVELG if you are sincere in supporting them; like I said above, they do not need me to guide them, give them advice, or make decisions for them. They can offer clarity to your questions; I am as anonymous to them as to you; and they appear to be hundreds of steps ahead of me. If you choose not to follow them, there is information on all of your questions in the BF library.
