Reason#9 Bold approaches...

Bold approaches is an understatement. With one department outsourced, and the other transporting citizens and working at Interlocken and Flatirons Mall; where is the flexibility to make this work? You are a dreamer, here.

Reason#10: Let's hope not

So far, this form of local government has created nothing but voter apathy. Let us hope that other communities seek to keep a participative government in their communities.
Your premise for appointed officials is questionable: of the professions I know without looking up: we have an insurance salesperson, a manufacturer's rep; someone on the chamber, a civil engineer, a loan officer, two retired people, and a business administrator; and other professions I cannot specifically name on the council; no where do I see interviewing experience and work history specific to a sheriff; an assessor, a coroner, a county recorder. Something is missing here. In elections these resumes are waived at the public; the public has more questions than 10 councilpersons and one mayor could ever think of; and the public would be involved in the choice of decision-makers in the county. Fortunately, I know there are citizens with direct experience in these decisions who could offer expertise and insight. Under this system; we will never hear their input.

Secondly, since there will be personal choice; specifically by George DiCero in naming some positions; how objective is this.

Thirdly, with the current self-appraisal the council has lauded upon themselves as being the most knowledgeable in community needs and business; therefore the most qualified to make decisions of any topic; how willingly will the council be to admit error?

Fourth; as far as our current Chief of Police' I personally have no trust in anyone who declares that "Human Cockfights" are entertainment; when I expect him to instruct his officers to arrest a person for abuse and assault when this type of fighting occurs in the street, a home, or a public place. Do I want Tom Deland to assume the role of Sheriff or whatever title is bestowed upon him as commander of our safety? NO.

To Adrian

Thank you for the kind words. I accept them with deep gratitude.

To Joan

I have been working since last spring to motivate people to become more involved in the issues of our city. Unfortunately, most of the ones I know are running into the same roadblocks with council that I feel. Phone calls are not returned; the city switchboard chooses which messages to forward and which to ignore, (my neighbor got so angry about this she actually hung up here phone and went to the information desk and told them about it).

Most of the people I have talked to do not want the NWP. The attitude is; I just won't use it; but will they come to a meeting? No, too busy; or no one cares what we say. Mobilize; when I find someone besides me who is truly interested in changing rather than take an attitude appropriate to the situation like the NWP. I am not giving up; by any means; but I have too much apathy around me right now; and the lack of active voter participation does not help.
