Insignificant

This could be valid. Let's discuss this point. My replies are as follows:

1) No matter where we live, we all have our procedures to follow for such activities. I have to mail my ballots. Does it matter to anyone if someone living several miles away must go to the polls? Does any other Broomfield citizen care that I have to mail my ballots? No. It is not a significant concern.

2) Many cities have separate ballot items from county issues. I do not want to count them even in the Denver metro area. This is intentional since residents of a particular city are typically a subset of the population of a county. Therefore, city ballot issues do not apply to the remainder of the county. You already know this.

3) What do you mean by "at times?" Are you trying to say that the cost of forming the city/county of Broomfield is worth it to citizens who can now avoid voting twice just once per year or every other year or every three or four years? I doubt anyone in Broomfield would opt for this solution given the cost of forming and operating just the office for county elections much less the entire county structure.

4) If this were truly an injustice to the portion of Broomfield residents in Adams County, any number of steps could have been taken to seek a simple policy change. You make the county status out to be the only solution. You have done this on a number of issues.

Not Improved, Just Closer

This message is typical of the type of campaign promises made by Broomfield officials last year. That is specifically why I asked for TANGIBLE benefits. The list of needs you provided most certainly pulls on our hearts and makes us want a better life for our neighbors. However, let us look at it rationally:

No county service focuses on a specific city in the county. You say that as though Broomfield residents are denied these services. They are not. What will Broomfield County services offer them? Will they be required to fill out fewer forms? Will services be dramatically improved or provided faster? No. There is a normal procedure for such offices. That can not change. In fact, the typical performance of newly formed offices such as these is less than standard during the initial phases of operation. In short, Broomfield residents can expect less efficient service for some period of time after the formation of the county. After that, the only benefit Broomfield residents will enjoy is that the office may be located closer to their homes. Ask them if they believe the cost to be justified

Not Tangible

Again, this is a vague reference to some utopian image that we are to have of the city/county of Broomfield. This is a typical approach for selling the idea of the county status. For instance, the phrase ?“better sense of our community?” was used as a benefit during the campaign. Knowing that Broomfield officials claim to be so interested in facts, I am forced to wonder just what this phrase means.

You say that new services can ?“focus?” on Broomfield as though these services do not already exist. Anyone reading your post might naturally feel strongly that the county was necessary in order to keep our neighbors healthy and happy. Unfortunately, a closer look reveals only simple tactics that are taught in any business class on advertising. The emotional strings are pulled. No tangible benefit was provided.

Again, the only tangible benefit is that the office is closer. Did you study how often the average resident conducts such research? Did you mention whether much of this research is normally done by mail? It is still doubtful that the average Broomfield resident is willing to pay such a price for the county in return for a shorter drive every few years if at all.
