15 offend. & nothing we can do?

Posted in: Westown Watch
My god!! .. there is the potential for at least 15 sex offenders to be moved in less that 100 feet from my home and my children????

I feel so deceived. I called the auctioneers and they assured me that these homes couldn't be sold like that. You had to have the ability to purchase the homes in 24 hours after the auction but they said that all the homes couldn't go to one buyer or organization.

According to the sex offender web site, I can't pass out their pictures, can't post them either. I can't approach them, that could be taken as harrassment and threatening them. I will not even post my name on this because I am not sure I am allowed to public speak of it.

One of these men was arrested for kid napping!!

So I am concerned to let my kids walk home from school. I have rearranged my schedule so that I am home when they are. I don't want them in the backyard alone. I can hardly sleep at night thinking that they are not safe. I have resisted the urge to put them in bed with me. I really don't want them to be afraid but how do you balance this threat?? We have to tell them about our new neighbors. We have talked about moving. Would anyone like to purchase a home with a closed down alley that backs up to THREE group homes that houses two sex offenders with the potential of 15?? How could I possibly sell this house and not tell a family moving in what possible danger exsists for them.

We have 11 offenders right now in our zip code..and a good chunk of those right in our neighborhood...how many more are our share???

A different perspective

I am also a mom and so I definitely relate to a mothers concern for her children's safety. However, there are bad people everywhere in this world, and the only thing that we can do about this is to educate our children about these bad people. Children can not be kept sheltered all of their lives, and they need to know how to deal with tough situations and tough people. It is awful that our neighborhood will/may have these people living here. But I bet there are many 'offenders' that have never been caught, and have lived in this neighborhood for longer than any of us would like to believe. Just because these people are known offenders does not make them unrehabilatatable. If you believe in our justice system, then you have to believe that these people have served their time, and it is not fair for them to be outcasted. We need to be forgiving to people, and believe that people can change. And at the same time, protect your children by educating them about where to play, when to come inside (after dark? when a strange car drives by 4 times? when a cyclist passes once too many?) the house, where to ride their bikes (NOT in alley's or behind businesses), etc. And also we need to pray to our God in heaven that our children are given sense to know when they may be in danger, and pray that our children be safe and that the Lord protect over them always. We cannot hide our children from the world of sinful people, but we can teach them about these things, and pray that they stay safe from them.
