Westown Block Watch

All Parents: Please Read

Posted in: Westown Watch
We have had to forbid our 13 yr. old son from going to Westown Park (Next to Sahuaro School) because there is a 19 yr old homeless, female drug user who is apparently living in the park. How do I know about this person? Because she hangs around with my 13 yr old son and his friends when they are at the park and she has told the kids that meth is her favorite drug. By the way, her name is Savannah.
My question is why is this 19 yr old hanging around with all the young boys who go to this park? Can't be for any positive reasons I can think of.
My next question is; Is this park a place for our neighborhood kids to go to or is it a homeless shelter or drug house?
I urge all parents to contact the Cactus Park police and ask them to closely patrol this area to prevent this type of ''park user'' from taking hold in our neighborhood.

RE: Westown Park

Thank you for the information about the transient in the park. I called Cactus Park Precinct and I also called Westown's PNP (Phoenix Neighborhood Patrol that I read about in the newsletter.

I too have a 13 year old and this is the last thing my impressionable son needs to be exposed too.

I talked with Jack Pesnell with the PNP and also offered to help him if needed. He said that any help is appreciated since volunteers are hard to come by unless of course they have an immediate problem. He assured me he would patrol around the park more and he has a direct line with the police.

I feel fortunate and more comfortable knowing we have active volunteers such as the PNP and Westown Watch

More info

My son told me that ''Savannah'' ripped off one of his friends named Eduardo (14 yrs old) by offering to sell him a hunting knife for $20, and then claiming the knife was stolen before she could give it to him. He had already given her $10 so she either scammed him or she is selling weapons to children.
We have also reported our concerns to Phoenix PD. Hope they can do something to get her out of the area.

Park concerns

I hope you will all read this in the spirit it is written. While it's great Jack Pesnell has a ''direct line'' to Phoenix PD, that is no substitute for you (the citizen) to call 602-262-6151 for low priority calls or 911 for crimes in progress. Mr. Pesnell is not a police officer and while it's great you share your crime fighting concerns with him and his group to intensify volunteer patrols, they have no rights more than any other citizen and officers should be contacted for your concerns.
