FOR SOME REASON TODAY MY THOUGHTS WERE DRAWN TO MY CHILDHOOD GROWING UP IN WHITE LAKE HILLS. I THOUGHT YOU MIGHT ENJOY OR RECALL, IF YOU'RE OLD ENOUGH. SOME OF THIS AS WELL. MY STEPDAD, LEO BARRETT, BOUGHT THE HOUSE AT 909 LAKE CHARLES IN 1963 WHEN WE RETRUNED TO TEXAS FROM A YEAR IN WESTERLY, RHODE ISLAND. WE WERE THE ORIGINAL OWNERS OF THE HOME AND I RECALL THAT THERE WAS NOTHING BUT RAW LAND BEHIND THE HOUSE FOR AS FAR AS THE EYE COULD SEE. I RECALL CHASING OUR DOG BACK THERE WHEN HE ESCAPED, WHICH WAS OFTEN. WE DUMPED OUR GRASS CLIPPINGS BACK THERE BEHIND THE FENCE- YOU COULD DO THAT THEN. I RECALL THAT THERE WAS ONLY ONE ENTRANCE TO THE NEIGHBORHOOD THEN OFF BRIDGE STREET. I BELIEVE THE HOUSE WAS BUILT BY MR. SHANNON WHO LIVED ON GREEN RIVER COURT. I RECALL PLAYING WITH HIS KIDS AND ATTENDING THE HALLOWEEN PARTIES. I ALSO RECAL THAT MR. SHANNON WOULD DELIVER A CAN OF BLACK EYED PEAS TO EACH HOUSE ON NEW YEARS EVE. MY STEPDAD AND I WORKED LIKE DOGS PUTTING IN A ST. AUGUSTINE YARD AND MAINTAINED IT BEAUTIFULLY UNTIL HIS ALLERGIES GOT THE BEST OF HIM AND HE PUT IN THE ROCK THAT IS STILL THERE. IT ABOUT TORE OUT MY HEART RECALLING ALL MY HARD WORK ON THAT YARD. I HAVE VERY FOUND MEMERIES OF YOUR NEIGHBORHOOD AND CONGRATULATE YOU ON BEING RESIDENTS. OH, I RECALL THAT WE WOULD ALWAYS GIVE DIRECTIONS TO OUR HOUSE BY TELLING VISITORS TO FIRST LOOK FOR THE WATER TOWER.
