What is that hideous granite slab on the corner at Blue Lake?

It is unclear to me what the slab of gray granite surrounded by a small brick enclosure on the east side of the Blue Lake entrance is intended to become, but it looks like a very unstable and cheaply built structure, in my humble opinion.  If this is intended to be a new sign for the White Lake Hills neighborhood entrance, I consider it to be a gross waste of money and funds.  It looks like it could be easily kicked over by a four year old, it doesn't match the other signs at the other entrances to our neighborhood, and actually looks more like a large cheap funeral monument than anything else at this point.

Is this the sort of thing we are going to waste our new $20 a year homeowners' dues on?  Why wasn't a copy of the other existing signs made?

CoolHere is the plan on this project:

1.  The sign on the condo side will be moved to Willow Ridge to match the other side.  Yes, they should be matched.

2.  The new sign will have new plantings, lighting, and some green grass to enhance this area.  The Telephone Company has ruined our entrance for years.  They have new access and will not be driving over our area.

3.  The entrance was not paid for from our dues.  It was given to the neighborhood association from The White Lake Hills Community Trust.  Change is always difficult but in time this entrance will look better.

Thank you for your comments.  It is always good to get the true story.

AT&T can still drive over the Bridge Street curb to access that area of grass just the same as they did driving over the same curb that curves around onto Blue Lake - it's the same curb.  That's not new access, it's just driving over a different part of the curb.

Who or what is the White Lake Hills Community Trust?  If they can finance one sign like this, then why not make all the other signs match?  Or, in the alternative, they could have had another sign made that looked like all the other existing signs that have adorned our entrances since the inception of our fine neighborhood.

Granted, a good deal of work and money was put into constructing this new sign and that hard labor was and is appreciated by this writer.  However, the lighting was certainly unnecessary, and I see no reason why the design of the sign had to change.  Granite, certainly a piece of that size and thickness, is not inexpensive, and I'll warrant that wrought iron configured to match that of the existing signs at the rest of the entrances would have been far cheaper if not fairly equivalent in price.

Dear Ms. Coffey,

Thank you for your concern about the trust fund. I feel it is greatly needed to improve our neighborhood. It is time someone in the neighborhood took the time and effort to improve our surroundings. I thank Larry and John for their hard work and Peggy and Terrell for their support. I pass through the Blue Lake entrance on a daily basis and I think it is an improvement. John and Larry took the initiative to put the background and paint the old signs as well as mow the areas on their own time. They put in many hours constructing the sign and I want to thank them. I haven't seen anyone else go to this extent to beautify our neighborhood. As our neighbors increase in years, it is up to the younger homeowners to step up to the plate. I watch out for all of my neighbors around me, put their papers on their porches so they won't have to get out in the cold and rain. If I see a ambulance or firetruck on our street I am the first to see what I can do to help. I will be at the next homeowners meeting and would love for you to stand up and express your concerns.
